Our vision

Our values drive us as an organisation in everything we do. We commit to adhering to all of the succeeding core values in our work, our strategies, and our relationships.

OUR VALUES

INTEGRITY

We exhibit honesty, transparency, responsibility and accountability in both what we say and what we do.

RESPECT

We affirm the dignity of all persons; value the potential and contributions of each other and of our volunteers, partners and stakeholders; and act without bias towards any particular person or group.

SOLIDARITY

We recognize our specific vulnerabilities, as well as the opportunities we have as Small Island Developing States, and are thus committed to working collectively, despite our differences, as a region.

LEARNING

We seek constant self-improvement and strive to create opportunities for professional development, capacity building, constructive feedback, and mentorship.

SUSTAINABILITY

We take our message on sustainability to heart and aim to lead by example, both as individuals and as an organisation.

DEMOCRACY

We strive to provide a democratic platform for free, inclusive and constructive discussion and decision-making for all members.

WALKING THE TALK

We commit to adhere to all of the preceding non-negotiable values at both the organisational and personal level.

OUR STORY

When young people of the SIDS-AIMS region were convened in Seychelles in July 2013 for the AIMS Youth Regional Meeting, they realized that unlike their Caribbean and Pacific counterparts, the AIMS region lacked synergy and were more geographically dispersed. There was a strong need to get young people within the SIDS-AIMS region organized into a network. Such a network would enable them to share best practices and collaboratively implement projects for sustainable development. It was also important for this network to be a legal entity that facilitates the access to funds needed to implement such projects.

The AIMS Youth Regional Meeting was part of the ‘My World, MY SIDS – Y.E.S (Youth, Entrepreneurship and Sustainability)’ initiative led by UNESCO, UNICEF, UNFPA and their partner organizations. Similar youth meeting was also held in the Caribbean and Pacific region respectively.
